Chapter 3: The First Secret
Monday morning came slowly.
星期一早上来得很慢。
Li Ming sat in his room, staring at the wall.
李明坐在房间里，盯着墙壁。
The script was still there.
剧本还在那里。
It never left now.
它现在不离开了。
Sometimes he wanted to tell someone.
有时候他想告诉别人。
But who would believe him?
但谁会相信他呢？
Zhang Fan? No.
张帆？不会。
His mother? She was always working.
他妈妈？她总是在工作。
The script showed nothing important that morning.
那天早上剧本没显示什么重要的东西。
The boy is eating breakfast.
男孩在吃早餐。
It is rice and egg.
是米饭和鸡蛋。
It is getting cold.
快凉了。
Li Ming looked at his bowl.
李明看了看自己的碗。
It was cold.
确实凉了。
"Useful," he said, and ate it anyway.
“真有用。”他说，还是吃了。

On the way to school, he watched the words more carefully.
去学校的路上，他更仔细地看着那些文字。
He noticed something.
他注意到了一件事。
The script didn't show everything.
剧本没有显示所有事情。
It showed what was important.
它只显示重要的事。
But important for whom?
但对谁重要呢？
For him? Or for someone else?
对他？还是对别人？
A cat ran across the street.
一只猫跑过街道。
The script said nothing.
剧本什么也没说。
An old woman dropped her bag.
一个老妇人掉了袋子。
No words appeared.
没有文字出现。
But when a bicycle almost hit him —
但当一个自行车差点撞到他——
A bicycle.
一辆自行车。
One second.
一秒。
Li Ming stepped left without looking.
李明看都没看就向左迈了一步。
The bicycle missed him.
自行车没撞到他。
He didn't even stop walking.
他甚至没有停下脚步。

"Something is different about you," Zhang Fan said at lunch.
“你有点不一样了。”张帆在午饭时说。
"Different how?"
“怎么不一样？”
"I don't know. You're quieter."
“说不上来。你更安静了。”
"I was always quiet."
“我一直很安静。”
"No. You were always complaining."
“不。你以前老在抱怨。”
Li Ming thought about this.
李明想了想。
Zhang Fan was right.
张帆说得对。
He used to complain about everything.
他以前什么都抱怨。
English. Homework. Teachers.
英语。作业。老师。
Now he had bigger things to think about.
现在他有更大的事要想了。
Like why the script existed.
比如剧本为什么存在。
And what it wanted from him.
以及它想从他这里得到什么。

That afternoon, the English teacher, Miss Chen, asked him to stay after class.
那天下午，英语老师陈老师让他课后留下。
Li Ming walked to her desk slowly.
李明慢慢走到她的桌前。
His heart was beating fast.
他的心跳得很快。
"Li Ming," she said.
“李明。”她说。
"Yes, teacher."
“是，老师。”
"Your homework yesterday."
“你昨天的作业。”
He had forgotten about the homework.
他忘了作业的事。
But he had done it.
但他做了。
"Was it wrong?" he asked.
“做错了吗？”他问。
"No," she said, looking at him strangely.
“没有。”她说，奇怪地看着他。
"It was all correct."
“全对了。”
Li Ming blinked.
李明眨了眨眼。
"Really?"
“真的？”
"It was simple work," she said. "But you did it. You never do it."
“是很简单的作业。”她说。“但你做了。你从来都不做。”
She waited for him to explain.
她等着他解释。
He didn't.
他没有。
"I want to learn now," he said finally.
“我现在想学了。”他最后说。
Miss Chen was quiet for a moment.
陈老师沉默了一会儿。
"Why?"
“为什么？”
"Because..." He stopped.
“因为……”他停下了。
How could he explain?
他该怎么解释？
Because a magic script told him to?
因为一个魔法剧本让他学？
"I just want to understand things," he said.
“我就是想弄明白一些事。”他说。
Miss Chen nodded slowly.
陈老师慢慢地点了点头。
"That's a good reason," she said.
“这是个好理由。”她说。
She gave him a small book.
她给了他一本小书。
"Start with this."
“从这个开始。”
It was a children's book in English.
是一本英语儿童书。
The title was "The Little Star."
书名是《小星星》。
Very easy.
非常简单。
Li Ming took it.
李明接过来。
He felt like she had given him a key, not a book.
他感觉她给他的不是一本书，而是一把钥匙。

That night, he read the book three times.
那天晚上，他把那本书读了三遍。
The little star was lonely.
小星星很孤独。
It wanted to find friends.
它想找到朋友。
It traveled across the sky.
它穿越天空旅行。
At the end, it found other stars.
最后，它找到了其他星星。
They shone together.
它们一起发光。
Li Ming closed the book.
李明合上书。
The script floated beside him.
剧本在他身边漂浮着。
Then it showed something new.
然后它显示了新的内容。
The boy is reading.
男孩在读书。
He is learning.
他在学习。
Step by step.
一步一步。
Soon he will see more.
很快他会看到更多。
He will see what others cannot.
他会看到别人看不到的东西。
What he sees will frighten him.
他看到的东西会让他害怕。
But he must continue.
但他必须继续。
Because one day, he will read the truth.
因为有一天，他会读到真相。
And the truth will change everything.
而真相会改变一切。
Li Ming felt cold again.
李明又觉得冷了。
"What truth?" he whispered.
“什么真相？”他小声问。
The script didn't answer.
剧本没有回答。
It only said:
它只说：
Good night, reader.
晚安，阅读者。
